Tenets of Jurate
- Love the Sea and Its Islands
- Let the Amber Flow
- Enjoy Love as Long as it Lasts
Priestesses of Jurate
- Special: Also known as Jūratė (yoo-RAH-tey), she is often followed by priestesses, nature priestesses, and mystics (see the upcoming Companion I). Many fey enchanters (link), sailors, fisherman, lovers, and fair aquatic beings worship her too.
- Allowed Weapons: Staff, spear, harpoon, dagger
- Allowed Armor: Leather or lighter
- Symbols: Waves, Island, Amber Palace, Mermaid
- Can Turn: Those who do not love the tenet that the priestess emphasizes (if not known, a 1 in 6 chance).
- Mysteries of Loving the Sea & Its Islands, Flowing Amber, or Enjoying Love as Long as it Lasts: Priestesses of Jurate select one or more of her tenets as their emphasis. Depending on what that is, they can gain a +1d3 bonus to one of their rolls while the emphasis is around and while being animistic, religious (for an automatic +2 instead), or engaging in folkways. They may do so up to once per day per level. Her mysteries can also be altered to be more like those of other divinities in this series, like Saule, Meness, and Laima, using emphasis approaches if desired.
Replace the various Jurate words below with one or more of the priestess’s emphases above:
Love the Sea & Its Islands, Let the Amber Flow, or Enjoy Love as Long as it Lasts, creating varying degrees of delight. Roll 1d12.
1. Celebration of Jurate: What's best to give, describe, or take time to attune with the Sea Goddess? The priestess will have to do 2 of the 3 things below (#2, #3, #4) so that the magic can work. Oh, what fun!
2. Jurate's Flotsam: With various items washed upon the shore, she touches us. An object must be left for Jurate in return to complete the spell, matching the priestess's emphasis, preferably put back to her waters.
3. The Sweet Sound of Jurate: Such soothing resonation can only be reflected with a Charisma check to describe the priestess's emphasis and have the magic happen. If not, she can try again 1d3 rounds later, until she comes close enough. She will likely enjoy doing so.
4. Jurate's Currents: Tides, beauty, and love may take some time to flow. Unless the priestess's emphasis is nearby, it will take 1d12 hours for the spell's effects to arrive. If it is, then it rushes in quickly within 1d3 rounds, spilling everywhere.
5. Realm of Jurate: A very pleasant feeling arises over the 120' area, representing the priestess's emphasis for the next 2d6 rounds. All who dwell there and revel in such things will take a +1d3 bonus to their rolls during that time.
6-8. Standard Casting: Though the magic works normally for now, there might be a sign of the priestess's emphasis... a 33% chance.
9-10. Jurate Magic I: What would one do with a 50% increase to the spell's effect, range, or duration? The priestess can find out if she acts according to her emphasis.
11. Jurate Magic II: Smell the air. Treat as above, but the effect, range, or duration can be doubled. It should be one to remember- all that's needed is the proper scent suggestive of the sea & its islands, flowing amber, or enjoying love as long as it lasts.
12. Blessing of Jurate: The tide is high, and the magic is blessed for x2 effect, range, or duration. It is also not expended so it can be cast again that day, opening the door to pleasures all night long. What is more, Jurate gives her blessing of a +2 bonus to the rolls of the target for the next 1d2 hours if they act in accord with the priestess's emphasis during that time, and thereby be hers.
For example, if a priestess of Jurate emphasized love the sea & its islands, then she could make sounds reminiscent of them with Magical Side-Effect #3, calling it The Sweet Sound of Loving the Sea & Its Islands, to coax the spell to happen. If her emphasis was enjoy love as long as it lasts, she could double the magic's range if such an aroma were in the air, with a result of Magical Side-Effect #11, Enjoying Love as Long as it Lasts Magic II.
Next week: tests of Jurate, her folk variations, and a brief entry on Ragana.
