Priestesses of Dheghom Mehter, Part III

Spells of Dheghom Mehter
The Earth Mother's powers are subtle, yet profound. As such, each of her spells may only be cast up to once per month, though there is otherwise no limit to how many her priestesses can perform per day. Still, being Proto Indo-European, her priestesses cannot cast the same spell more than once during that time unless under special circumstances (detailed further below under Emphasis Spells).

1st Level: Create Water, Cure Light Wounds, Detect Evil, Detect Magic, Purify Food & Drink, Protection from Evil, Remove Fear, Resist Cold, Sanctuary, Floating Disk*, Hold Portal*, Shield*

2nd Level: Augury, Bless, Delay Poison, Holy Chant, Reveal Charm, Speak with Animal, Find Plant (D)

3rd Level: Cure Blindness, Cure Disease, Dispel Magic, Locate Object, Prayer, Remove Curse, Speak with Dead, Water Breathing (D), Clairaudience*, Clairvoyance*, Protection from Normal Missiles*

4th Level: Create Food and Water, Cure Serious Wounds, Divination, Exorcise, Lower Water, Neutralize Poison, Protection from Evil 10’ Radius

5th Level: Commune, Cure Critical Wounds, Dispel Evil, Commune with Nature (D)

6th Level: Find the Path, Heal, Part Water

   7th Level: Restoration, Sympathy*

For example, even though a 2nd level priestess of another goddess might be able to cast two to five 1st level spells per day, a 2nd level priestess of Dheghom Mehter could cast each of the thirteen of the 1st level spells available to her up to once per month. Once she reached 3rd level, she could then do the same with the seven 2nd level spells available to her too, thereby being able to cast up to twenty spells per month, but usually never the same ones twice or more.

Emphasis Spells
Though she generally cannot prepare or cast the same spells more than once per month, a priestess's emphasis can wind around this restriction. In return for giving up knowledge of another spell of equivalent level, she may select one that matches her emphasis from the list below and repeatedly use it as many total times as her other spells would allow- as long as she does so in a specific manner from now on. And if the spell is already on Dheghom Mehter's main list, the emphasis spell can replace that one instead.

1-3. Love & follow your husband, letting men lead, the Wagon (the Broad One)
Bless, Exorcise, or Floating Disk: if done to assist her husband or other male relative.

4-6. Protect your children, adoring and providing well for them, having many, Crops (Fertile Earth)
Enlarge, Plant Growth, or Protection from Evil: if cast in order to aid in childbirth (by making the mother temporarily larger), to make crops more fertile for any, or to protect her children from evil spirits, respectively.

7-9. Support your people, nourishing and healing your folk, Rivers (Wet Earth)
Animal Growth, Cure Light Wounds, or Remove Disease: if used to help provide additional meat, or to heal or cure her tribe members.

10-12. Honor the earth, all returning in the end, Kurgan (Deep Earth)
Move Earth, Feign Death, or Speak with Dead: if cast to aid in temporary construction, herding, or when within her ancestral lands.

For example, if a 5th level priestess of Dheghom Mehter's emphasis is Wet Earth, then she could cast Animal Growth up to thirty-one times during the same month, substituting it for her other monthly spells from that total, as long as she does so in order to help feed members of her clan, likely doing so with especially large cattle.

Healing Flows
a Dheghom Mehter encounter

Many come to the Earth Mother to find relief and home.

A priestess of Dheghom Mehter receives visitors at her wagon here when she is not attending to her family. A number might be present, looking for guidance on life's common concerns, understandably organized by emphasis. The party may wish to seek counsel with her, or even convey their own expert assistance to such patients too. Select or roll 1d8.

Broad One
1. Wagon-working may be fine, but the visitor wishes to do something more heroic than just assisting his master, a wainwright.

2. An aged man seeks counsel as to why he never found his true wife. The closest he came was a woman who inevitably ran off and began worshipping NgWhi the Abomination. His world-renowned failure at both love and life, as well as his relative isolation at least compels him to return to the Gods. Perhaps that is the point and only a spiritual life as a mystic hermit, with continued love and support for his children, is meant for him.

Fertile Earth
3. A young woman seeks help with having children. For years, she had been mislead by some fallen cultists of Yemo the Crossed, but now wishes greatly to experience the joy of perpetuating her people.

4. Whatever a boy eats verily upsets his vital humours, almost certainly due to some influence of evil spirits. It seems he can tolerate the flesh of cattle somewhat, though remains oftentimes weak, while milk and grain only cause phlegmatism or worse. What can his mother do to make sure he grows to become a strong warrior?

Wet Earth
5. Though well-to-do, a noted rancher wishes better results, especially since Dheghom Mehter advises his livestock dine only upon grass rather than grain. The latter can be found in the lands of the Neolithic farmers (link), which he intends to conquer, and have his cattle dine there instead.

6. A former koryos seeks to overcome his rheumatism. He believes it is caused by the well-known saying 'rheumatoids: the evil that lies within... one's joints'. His earlier wolf spirit training leads him to seek to become some sort of werewolf (in both diet and disposition) in an effort to help in his healing- perhaps by gaining some sort of mark of Caine(-nine)? His family doesn't know where to begin to worry.

Deep Earth
7.  An elderly woman awaits, bad-tempered and hollow due to the loss of her husband. She claims to be troubled by the undead too, perhaps lost in her decrepitude, but it may turn out that she is only one herself.

8. Travelling from the adjacent Corded Ware lands, a storyteller and sage has become dismayed that the scribblings and carvings of his tales of that folk have been critiqued of late. It might just be ordained by the Gods that his way in this life is to be so, though others may not be willing to tell him without critiquing as well, perhaps until the next life happens.
