Magical Side-Effects of Dheghom Mehter
Replace one or more Dheghom Mehter words with the priestess's emphasis. Roll d12.
1. Appeal to Dheghom Mehter: The priestess will need to make an ability score check (DC 15) that matches her emphasis or a fitting sacrifice in order for the magic to work.
2. Dheghom Mehter’s Attention: If the spell would help the target, then he or she must be acting in accordance with the priestess’s emphasis. If not meant to be helpful, then the spell is just regardless.
3. Dheghom Mehter-struck: The magic’s target will have to save vs. death/ make a Will save DC 10 or suffer a -1d6 penalty to rolls that don’t correspond to the priestess’s emphasis for the next d30 minutes.
4. Dheghom Mehter Ways: Unless the spell is cast in a place or manner that aligns with the priestess’s emphasis, it only works for half its power.
5. Aura of Dheghom Mehter: All within 120’ must save vs. spell/ make a Will save DC 15 or suffer -1d3 to all rolls that aren't akin to the priestess’s emphasis for the next 1d3 rounds.
6-8. Standard Casting: The spell has no side-effect for now, though there’s also a 33% chance of the priestess’s emphasis showing in some fashion too.
9. Dheghom Mehter Spell: All within 60’ are required to save vs. spell/ make a Will save DC 15 or engage in activities that reflect the priestess’s emphasis for 1d6 rounds.
10. Time for Dheghom Mehter! The magic has a 50% bonus to its effect, range, or duration if the priestess performs her emphasis at least passably well (an appropriate ability score check).
11. By Dheghom Mehter... If the spell’s target is surrounded by the priestess’s emphasis, then the magic occurs at double its normal effect, range, or duration.
12. Blessing of Dheghom Mehter: The magic functions at x2 the effect, range, or duration, as well as not being expended so it can be cast again that day. Also, if it’s meant to benefit the target, then the goddess grants them a +1 to all rolls when acting according to the priestess’s emphasis for the next 1d2 hours.
For example, if the priestess's emphasis was Love & follow your husband, letting men lead, then result #1 might be known as Appeal to Letting Men Lead or Appeal to the Broad One in her case, needing to make a Charisma or Wisdom check or a sacrifice of a wagon so as to help the spell function.
If it was Support your people, nourishing and healing your folk, then result #10 could be Time for Supporting Your People or Time for Wet Earth or Time for Rivers, gaining a 50% bonus to her spell's effect, range, or duration if she does one of them at least reasonably well with perhaps a Wisdom or Dexterity check.
Next week: tests of Dheghom Mehter, Proto Indo-European good wives & mothers, cuisine, and folk variations.
